Margery Schuler Maine Watercolor Workshop

To participate in the workshop one should have basic watercolor skills, especially washes. Perhaps 4 or 5 lessons in adult education or a private tutor. Practice your sketching and drawing as much as possible, beforehand. You do not have to be an expert…I am not! Subjects that I hope to include, weather permitting, will be surf on rocks, fog, fishing boats, local buildings, perhaps flowers if you wish and there is a DISTANT lighthouse. Many, many subjects.

You will be making your own reservations for accommodations from either the list below or your own connection. Meals on you own can be either at Driftwood or elsewhere. All are very informal.
Come the day before you wish to paint if possible with all of your supplies. Take plenty of photos to use as an aid or to use later at home. If you do not bring your own printer the closest place is CVS or Wal-Mart in Brunswick (not convenient) you might also wish to stay longer and continue painting in Maine, on your own!

A typical day (weather permitting) will be as follows.
	6:30-8:00 a.m. A short walk beginning at Driftwood Inn to talk about subject matter, composition, and to do some sketching. (optional) 8:00-8:45 a.m. A ‘la carte breakfast at the Driftwood Inn, if you wish. Terrific blueberry muffins and blueberry pancakes. Make a dinner reservation at the Inn, if you wish.
	You may want to pick up a sandwich for lunch at Driftwood Inn-must order the evening before. Luncheon items are also available at Bailey Island Store, Giant Stairs Takeout near the Inn. 9:00 a.m. Demonstration at the location designated for that day. (Call Driftwood Inn to find out where~ 833-5461) Paint on location: I shall be available to help you until 3:00. There is a possibility of a 2-hour noon cruise on Casco Bay, one day (weather permitting). It costs $10. Great for sketching and just seeing the area.
	4:00 p.m. First critique of your work of day at Driftwood-finish your painting 6:00 p.m. One sitting: Dinner at Driftwood if you reserved or we can dine out about 25 minutes away. Allen’s, Middlebay, Block and tackle. 8:00 p.m. 2nd critique of a MATTED painting. Optional video of watercolor by an English tutor.
